Comprehensive Metabolic Panel (CMP)

The CMP is a group of 14 blood tests that provides a broad assessment of your body's chemical balance, metabolism, and organ function. It covers blood sugar, electrolytes, kidney function, and liver function in a single draw, making it one of the most informative routine panels available.

What This Panel Screens For

Diabetes and pre-diabetes (glucose), kidney disease (BUN, creatinine, eGFR), liver disease (ALT, AST, ALP, bilirubin), electrolyte imbalances (sodium, potassium, chloride, CO2), dehydration, acid-base disorders, protein malnutrition, and bone metabolism issues (calcium).

When To Get This Panel

A CMP is standard with annual physicals and pre-surgical evaluations. It is essential when monitoring diabetes, kidney disease, liver conditions, or hypertension. It should be ordered if you are taking medications that affect the kidneys or liver (statins, NSAIDs, ACE inhibitors, metformin) or experiencing symptoms like excessive thirst, fatigue, swelling, or changes in urination.

Recommended Frequency

Annually for healthy adults. Every 3-6 months for patients with diabetes, chronic kidney disease, liver disease, or those on medications requiring organ function monitoring.

How GATOR Normalizes Across Lab Vendors

GATOR unifies CMP reference ranges across Function Health, LabCorp, and Quest. For example, fasting glucose optimal ranges vary by vendor (Function Health uses 70-90 mg/dL vs LabCorp's 65-99 mg/dL). GATOR applies a consistent optimal-normal-high framework so you can track metabolic trends across labs and over time without false status changes caused by switching providers.
