Vitamin & Mineral Panel
This panel measures essential micronutrients that serve as cofactors for thousands of enzymatic reactions in the body. Deficiencies in vitamins and minerals are surprisingly common even in well-fed populations and can cause subtle symptoms like fatigue, brain fog, muscle cramps, poor immunity, and mood disturbances long before clinical disease develops.
What This Panel Screens For
Vitamin D deficiency (affects 42% of US adults), vitamin B12 deficiency (common in vegetarians and older adults), folate deficiency, magnesium deficiency (affects up to 68% of Americans), zinc deficiency (immune and hormonal impacts), selenium deficiency (thyroid function), and iron deficiency. These nutrients are critical for immune function, energy production, bone health, cognitive function, and thyroid metabolism.
Biomarkers Included
7 biomarkers in this panel
When To Get This Panel
When experiencing fatigue, brain fog, frequent illness, muscle cramps, tingling/numbness, mood changes, or poor wound healing. Recommended for vegetarians/vegans (B12, iron, zinc), those with limited sun exposure (vitamin D), older adults (B12 absorption declines with age), and anyone taking medications that deplete nutrients (PPIs, metformin, oral contraceptives).
Recommended Frequency
Annually for healthy adults. Every 3-6 months when actively supplementing to verify levels have reached optimal range and to avoid toxicity (especially fat-soluble vitamins D and A). Seasonal testing for vitamin D (end of winter/end of summer) can reveal your personal pattern.
How GATOR Normalizes Across Lab Vendors
GATOR unifies micronutrient reference ranges across Function Health, LabCorp, and Quest and applies evidence-based optimal ranges. For vitamin D, GATOR uses 40-60 ng/mL as optimal (vs the conventional "sufficient" cutoff of >30 ng/mL), aligned with Endocrine Society recommendations. GATOR also flags nutrient interactions — for example, low magnesium impairs vitamin D activation, and low B12 with normal folate may indicate a methylation issue.
