Thyroid Panel

The thyroid panel evaluates how well your thyroid gland is functioning. The thyroid controls metabolism, energy, body temperature, heart rate, and mood. A comprehensive panel goes beyond just TSH to include the active hormones (Free T3 and Free T4) and markers of autoimmune thyroid disease, providing a complete picture of thyroid health.

What This Panel Screens For

Hypothyroidism (underactive thyroid), hyperthyroidism (overactive thyroid), Hashimoto's thyroiditis (autoimmune hypothyroidism), Graves' disease (autoimmune hyperthyroidism), thyroid conversion issues (T4-to-T3), sick euthyroid syndrome, and subclinical thyroid dysfunction that standard TSH-only testing may miss.

Biomarkers Included

When To Get This Panel

When experiencing unexplained fatigue, weight changes, hair loss, cold or heat intolerance, brain fog, depression, or anxiety. Women should be screened during pregnancy planning and postpartum. Anyone with a family history of thyroid disease, autoimmune conditions, or who has received neck radiation should be tested.

Recommended Frequency

Annually if you have known thyroid disease or are on thyroid medication. TSH screening every 5 years for adults over 35. More frequently (every 6-8 weeks) when initiating or adjusting thyroid hormone replacement until levels stabilize.

How GATOR Normalizes Across Lab Vendors

GATOR standardizes thyroid reference ranges across lab vendors and highlights the difference between conventional and functional medicine ranges. For example, conventional TSH ranges go up to 4.5 mIU/L, while functional medicine considers 0.5-2.5 mIU/L optimal. GATOR also auto-calculates the Free T3/Reverse T3 ratio, a key marker of thyroid conversion efficiency not typically reported by labs.
