Inflammatory Markers
This panel measures key proteins and cells that indicate systemic inflammation in the body. Chronic low-grade inflammation is now recognized as a root driver of cardiovascular disease, cancer, autoimmune conditions, neurodegeneration, and accelerated aging. Tracking inflammatory markers over time reveals patterns that single snapshots miss.
What This Panel Screens For
Chronic systemic inflammation, cardiovascular disease risk (hs-CRP), autoimmune disease activity, infection, hidden inflammatory conditions, post-surgical complications, and response to anti-inflammatory interventions (diet, exercise, supplements, medications).
Biomarkers Included
When To Get This Panel
When assessing cardiovascular risk beyond standard lipid panels. If you have autoimmune conditions, chronic fatigue, unexplained joint pain, or recurring infections. After acute illness or surgery to monitor recovery. When evaluating the effectiveness of anti-inflammatory lifestyle changes or medications.
Recommended Frequency
Every 6-12 months for general cardiovascular risk assessment. Every 3-6 months for patients with autoimmune conditions or those actively managing chronic inflammation. Recheck 4-6 weeks after starting anti-inflammatory interventions to assess response.
How GATOR Normalizes Across Lab Vendors
GATOR normalizes inflammatory marker reference ranges across Function Health, LabCorp, and Quest, and applies functional medicine optimal ranges. For hs-CRP, GATOR uses <1.0 mg/L as optimal (vs the conventional <3.0 mg/L), aligned with the American Heart Association's cardiovascular risk stratification. GATOR also cross-references ferritin with CRP to distinguish true iron status from inflammation-driven ferritin elevations.
