TG/HDL Ratio
Formula
TG / HDL-CWhat It Reveals
Insulin resistance and atherogenic dyslipidemia. A better predictor of cardiovascular events than either marker alone.
Interpretation Ranges
Optimal
< 2.0
Low cardiovascular and insulin resistance risk
Borderline
2.0โ3.5
Moderate risk โ monitor metabolic markers
High Risk
> 3.5
Elevated risk โ strongly associated with insulin resistance and small dense LDL
Clinical Significance
The TG/HDL ratio is one of the strongest predictors of insulin resistance and coronary artery disease. Values above 3.5 correlate with a predominance of small, dense LDL particles (Pattern B).
What To Do
Reduce refined carbohydrates and sugar. Increase omega-3 fatty acids. Exercise regularly. Consider niacin if significantly elevated.
