Clinical Significance
A high ratio suggests the kidneys are working but blood flow is reduced (pre-renal). A normal ratio with elevated BUN/creatinine suggests intrinsic kidney disease.
What To Do
Hydrate adequately. If persistently elevated: check for GI bleeding, heart failure, or dehydration.
